Did you know….

There is enough food produced in the world for every person to enjoy 2,720 calories a day.

The United States throws away approximately 1/3 of the food it produces.

One child dies every 6 seconds from hunger.

One in four children are constantly hungry.

The US
wastes 1/3
of its food

Lack of nutrition, 2 million babies suffer from poor eyesight, which equals approximately ½ the number of babies born in the U.S. last year.

Half the world lives on less than $2.50 a day. 1 in 5 on only $1.25 a day.

Lack of food kills more people every year than malaria, tuberculosis and AIDS, all combined.

In the year 2012, 870 million people (3 times the number that live in the U.S.), or one in eight people in the world, suffered from chronic undernourishment.

In the United States, there are 16 million children that come home to not enough food in their house. That is 1 in 5 kids, typically living in the inner city.

Most of these food facts were compiled by various worldwide humanitarian organizations such as UNICEF. Encourage your participants to do their own “hunger facts” web search.

To inspire your participants to overcome such challenging hunger facts and become individuals of strong character, encourage them to find motivating quotes such as:

“No one is free when others are oppressed.”

“Live to love, love to live.”

“Life shrinks and expands in proportion to one’s courage.” Anais Nin

“If you are torn between the desire to improve the world or enjoy it, choose the former and have both.”

“Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man more clever of a devil.” C.S. Lewis

“What lies behind us and what stands before us are small matters compared to what resides within us.”
